When an Indiana DOC inmate was released from prison Monday, he was given a ride straight to the Greene County Jail due to an old outstanding warrant issued in Greene County for an alleged theft. He was accused of stealing some ice cream from a convenience store in 2015.

Lucien Victor Grubb, now 53 years old, was booked in Monday afternoon. On Tuesday afternoon, he pleaded guilty when he appeared before Judge Dena Martin for his initial hearing in Greene Superior Court.

The jail record shows Grubb with a home address in Bloomington. Court records indicate he has lived in the Solsberry area of Greene County in the past.

The ice cream incident that occurred in September of 2015 was reported and then investigated by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

The owner of the Pinewood Gas Station in eastern Greene County said a man, who had been a regular customer, had stolen several items, worth about $20, from his store including ice cream.

The owner was not certain of the man’s name but provided video surveillance footage. It took a while to determine who the man was. Once they were able to identify the suspect as Lucien Grubb, they were able to locate him, in the Monroe County Jail where he was incarcerated in another case.

When Grubb was interviewed at the Monroe County Jail in January of 2016, about the theft in Greene County, he allegedly admitted he took the ice cream.

Then in April of 2016, he was sentenced by a judge in Monroe County to time in the Indiana Department of Corrections and that’s where he’s been.

During his hearing today (Tuesday), Grubb was advised of his rights but entered a plea of guilty and was convicted of theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

Grubb was sentenced to 20 days in the Greene County Jail. He was given credit for time served since he got there and will be eligible for good time credit.

He was also ordered to pay $20 in restitution to the Pinewood Gas Station, then pay court costs and a $35 fine.
