Greene County General Hospital warns community of phone scam
/Greene County General Hospital (GCGH) is alerting the community following a phone scam in which individuals are falsely claiming to represent the hospital and requesting money for emergency medical procedures.
In a recent incident, a community member reported receiving a call stating that a family member was hospitalized and required emergency surgery. The caller requested an immediate “down payment” to proceed with care and instructed the individual to send money electronically. This call did not originate from GCGH.
While the hospital does communicate with patients telephonically about billing when appropriate, GCGH will never demand urgent payment for medical care over the phone or require payment through electronic transfer apps such as PayPal, Zelle, Venmo, or similar services. There is no indication of any breach of patient information or hospital systems.
GCGH encourages community members to stay alert and take the following steps if they receive a suspicious call requesting payment:
Do not provide personal or financial information.
End the call immediately.
Contact GCGH using a publicly listed phone number to confirm whether the communication was legitimate.
Report any suspected scam activity to your financial institution and local authorities.
Greene County General Hospital remains committed to protecting patients and ensuring safe, reliable communication. Anyone with concerns or who believes they were targeted by this scam is encouraged to contact the hospital directly at 812‑847‑2281.
