Former Jasonville woman arrested and booked into jail twice this week
/A woman who was arrested and booked into jail twice this week has been charged with felony meth possession in addition to a pending charge of misdemeanor theft in an unrelated case.
Chelsea Dawn Vaughn, 32, Sullivan, formerly from Jasonville, was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail twice this week.
Vaughn was arrested by Deputy Terry Wade of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Monday afternoon, October 5. She was booked into jail at 1:29 p.m. on a warrant that was issued for her arrest when she failed to appear in court for a pretrial conference in a case involving theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
In that case, Vaughn is accused of shoplifting items from Walmart by hiding the items in her purse and in backpacks worn by her children. To find a previous story about that case on GreeneStreets, click on the Tag “Chelsey Vaughn” under this story.
When she was arrested on the warrant on Monday, Vaughn’s bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $500 and was released later the same day.
That was on Monday afternoon. In less than 24 hours, Vaughn was back in jail.
In an unrelated incident, Vaughn was arrested by GCSD Sgt. Bobby Pierce early Tuesday, October 6. She was booked into jail at 12:40 a.m. and this time, she was held without bond pending court appearance.
Sgt. Pierce initiated a traffic stop on a yellow 2005 Ford Mustang on State Road 67 at the Lyons Gas Station in Lyons for two different offenses – texting while operating a motor vehicle and a violation involving the signaling of a turn.
Chelsea Vaughn was the driver with a male passenger on board. A records check on both the driver and passenger revealed they both had suspended licenses.
Sgt. Pierce said both Vaughn and the passenger appeared to be extremely nervous and said there was nothing illegal in the vehicle but they both refused to allow a search.
After Officer Joe Riley and his K9 partner Kona of the Linton Police Department arrived to assist, Kona was commanded to sniff around the vehicle and Kona alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle which is probable cause to search the vehicle.
Sgt. Pierce reported officers found a small clear ziplock bag containing white residue in the driver’s side door panel. The residue field tested positive as methamphetamine.
Both Vaughn and the passenger denied knowing about the item but Vaughn allegedly admitted she uses methamphetamine and had last used three days earlier. The passenger said he had not used methamphetamine for a year and a half. The passenger was not arrested. Vaughn was taken into custody.
Yesterday morning, Vaughn appeared in Greene Superior Court for a hearing in the earlier case, and an initial hearing on the new charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She has since posted bond and been released from jail.
