Former employee sentenced to jail time, ordered to pay restitution
/A former employee accused of stealing over $11,000 from a business in the Bloomfield area was convicted and sentenced this month to time in jail plus she was ordered to pay restitution.
Amber Ankney, Springville, 28 at the time of her arrest last April, was charged with 12 Level 6 felony counts involving forgery and theft. She allegedly stole funds from her employer over a period of months.
Ankney entered into a negotiated plea agreement and earlier this month, she changed her plea to guilty of two counts of theft, both as Level 6 felonies. Under the terms of the agreement, which was accepted by Greene Superior Court, the other counts were dismissed.
On each of the two counts, Ankney was sentenced to two years but on each count, all but 180 days was suspended leaving her 360 days to serve. After she serves her time, the court said she would be on supervised probation for 1.5 years on each count, for a total of three years.
At the time of her sentencing, she was given credit for 69 days already served and she was given good time credit. The court said she would be allowed to serve her time on the work release program and ordered her to report to Greene County Community Corrections the next day.
However, a week after her sentencing, Ankney filed a notice to the court stating she did not have the funds to pay for work release so the court determined she was not eligible. Her sentence was modified to say she will serve her time in jail.
According to jail records, she is currently expected to be eligible for release on October 21.
In addition to the jail time, and various fees, she was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,000 to Austin Memorial Arts and restitution in the amount of $10,153.76 to the Erie Insurance Company. She will be allowed to work out a payment schedule with her probation officer.
