Fender bender in the park results in criminal charge
/After a fender bender crash in a park, that may have been an incident of road rage, one driver is facing a criminal charge for leaving the scene of an accident.
A criminal case was filed yesterday against Elizabeth Haug, 22, in Greene Superior Court. Court records show her with a home address in Vincennes.
Haug is facing a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor, as a result of an investigation by Linton Police Officer Joe Riley into an incident that occurred back on December 10, 2020.
Around 12:39 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, Officer Riley was dispatched to look into a report by a man who said he’d been involved in a road rage incident and that the other vehicle had hit his vehicle.
During an interview, the man said he was at Humphreys Park in Linton when a red Chevy Impala arrived with a female driver and a male passenger. He said the Chevy started chasing him in his vehicle and at the intersection of E Street NE and the park, the Chevy ran into the driver’s side of his vehicle.
While that interview was going on, LPD Officer Adam King located the red Chevy Impala. Haug was the driver who was asked to go to the police department for an interview.
According to Officer Riley, Haug said her sister told her the man was stalking her and so she and her male passenger went to the park to confront the man but when they got there, he took off. She followed him and said when she attempted to get around him, he turned his vehicle into hers.
When Haug was asked why she was attempting to get around the other vehicle, she allegedly said she was trying to get him to stop. When asked why she didn’t stop after the crash, she allegedly said she was scared and didn’t know what to do.
A summons has been issued, ordering Haug to appear in court for an initial hearing in March.
