Steven Michael Butler, 38, Springville, was arrested by Deputy Michael Coy of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, August 8.

Around 5:44 p.m. that Sunday, Deputy Coy was dispatched along with Deputy Camron Frye to an active fight between two men at a residence in Blue Sky North. When they arrived, Butler had gone to the top of a nearby hill and when Deputy Coy talked to him, he said he’d been in an argument with his step-father but he didn’t touch anyone and didn’t break any laws.

After talking to the step-father, who explained what had happened in detail, and taking photographs of his injuries, then talking to Butler again, Butler was taken into custody.

Deputy Coy reported that during transport of Butler, who was handcuffed, to the Greene County Jail, when passing the step-father’s residence, Butler removed his seatbelt, rolled down his window and got up in the back seat with his head out the window. He sat back down when Deputy Coy stopped his patrol vehicle, rolled the window back up and fastened the seatbelt.

Deputy Coy also reported that during the trip, Butler was verbally threatening and said if he had touched his step-father, the step-father would be “asleep in the woods.”

Butler was booked in at 7:40 p.m. with bond set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted bond and been released.

Butler is scheduled to be in court for his initial hearing on August 23. He is facing a charge of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
