Brianna Lynn Shouse, 20, of Coal City, was arrested by Deputy Harvey Holt of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department after Holt responded to a complaint of theft.

Deputy Holt was dispatched on Friday, May 24, after the Ruler Store in Bloomfield contacted the sheriff’s department and said they were detaining an employee suspected of taking money out of the register.

The theft allegedly occurred on Monday, May 20. On that day Shouse was one of two employees who had worked on a register which when counted, was found to be $400 short.

When Deputy Holt talked to the store’s asset protection manager, he received a written statement by Shouse admitting she had taken a $100 bill from the register to feed her children and that she promised to pay the money back.

The manager provided Holt access to video footage that showed Shouse taking money from her register and placing it in her pocket.

Shouse was transported to the sheriff’s department and interviewed by Holt who reported that after Shouse was confronted with the video evidence, she admitted she had actually taken $350 from the store.

Shouse was booked into jail. Her bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $100 cash and was released later the same day.

Yesterday, on Monday, June 3, she was charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor, in Greene Superior Court. A plea of not guilty was entered for her but court records indicate that she intends to change her plea to guilty and a change of plea hearing has been scheduled.
