Christopher Joseph Afanador, 31, Bloomington, was arrested on Monday night, April 20, by Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Frye was dispatched to a residence in Timber Trace a little after 9 on Monday night. The resident had called in and told a dispatcher about a vehicle that was parked in his driveway. He said the driver appeared to be under the influence and refused to leave.

When Deputy Frye arrived, he found a silver 2005 Honda Element parked in the driveway with the motor running and a man behind the wheel who appeared to be asleep and didn’t respond to the first couple of knocks on the window.

The driver was later identified as Afanador.

When Deputy Frye talked to the resident and a granddaughter, he learned they did not know Afanador but the granddaughter said he was traveling behind her and followed her vehicle when she turned into Timber Trace, then parked in the driveway when she exited her vehicle and went in the house.  The resident said he went outside and asked the man to leave but he refused.

Deputy Frye reported Afanador exhibited numerous signs of impairment and he was unable to conduct field sobriety tests due to Afanador’s demeanor and condition.

Afanador was transported to the sheriff’s department where he refused to take a chemical test. Deputy Frye obtained a search warrant, and personnel from the Greene County Ambulance Service took a blood draw – results are pending.

Afanador was booked into jail around 11:43 p.m. His bond was set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $800 and been released.

Afanador is facing preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony.

According to Deputy Frye, Afanador was convicted of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Monroe County in 2015.

Afanador is currently scheduled to be in court for an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court on May 11.
