Drinking mother arrested for hitting three young children, and biting one of them
/Three Level 5 felony charges were filed today against a mother accused of hitting her three young children and biting one of them Wednesday night while she was inebriated. A portable breathalyzer showed she had a BAC of .194.
Lorie Renee Cullison, 42, Sandborn, was arrested by Deputy Andrew Weeks of the Greene County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday night, September 7.
Deputy Weeks, the investigating officer, was dispatched around 7:49 PM on Wednesday along with Major George Dallaire to a residence on West County Road 500 S after dispatch got a report that a woman had been drinking and hitting her children.
When they arrived on the scene, they found three children and three grandparents outside the residence and one of them said he was the one who called 911. He told the deputies that Lorie Cullison had hit all three children, had bitten one and was passed out inside the house. He said Child Protective Services had been contacted in the past but the situation had not gotten violent until now.
According to a probable cause document prepared by Deputy Weeks, they talked to three children who ranged in age from four to ten years old. One explained that his mother had grabbed him, pulled his arm and pulled on a sibling. This child had a red mark on his nose and when asked about it, he said his mother bit his nose because she was upset. He said he then told his mom to be a normal mom and that she had hurt his sibling.
Another child said the mother had smacked her really hard causing pain and hit the sibling on the arm after returning home from taking a couple of the kids to an event. They said that is when her mom started acting different and was yelling, cursing and using the “F” word. They said it had happened before.
The man who called 911 had blood on a forearm and when he was asked what happened, he said one of the children had called him and told him what was happening in the house and when he got there, Lorie Cullison was yelling and cursing at the kids so he pushed her up to the wall using his forearm against her neck.
While they were all speaking outside, Lorie Carlson came outside, said she was fine, and when she got home after taking a child to an event, everything was a mess and she didn't know what was going on.
When asked if she'd been drinking, she allegedly said she had a four-pack. She agreed to take a portable breath test and the results showed she had a BAC of .194.
Major Dallaire placed Cullison in handcuffs in the back of a patrol vehicle. Deputy Weeks reported she was emitting the odor of an alcoholic beverage, she was stumbling while walking, was argumentative and was repeating herself saying, “Why did I do this,” and “I'm the best mom,” and “I have problems with alcohol and drinking and was confused.”
Her behavior did not change on the way to the sheriff's department but once they arrived, she became very uncooperative and then defensive. She allegedly admitted she has a problem with alcohol and when asked if she would like to give a statement, she allegedly said her statement was “I did not hurt my children.”
Photographs were taken of the children’s injuries and they were left in the custody of grandparents.
Lorie Cullison was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:04 PM.
A criminal case was filed against her earlier today in Greene Circuit Court on charges of: Three counts of domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a person under the age of 14. All three counts are Level 5 felonies. The date of her initial hearing is not yet known.
