Dog fight leads to man fight
/Disagreements over a dog fight escalated into a couple of scuffles between men in Bloomfield Wednesday night and one of them was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Troy Douglas Robertson, 57, Bloomfield, was arrested by Bloomfield Town Marshal Ken Tharp on Wednesday night, March 24.
Around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Marshal Tharp responded to a physical altercation in progress on the rear patio area of the Bloomfield Housing Authority on West Main Street, also known as the High Rise.
When he arrived, he found a man lying on the ground at the entrance door to the cafeteria. An ambulance was requested but the man refused medical attention.
While talking to people involved or present, Marshal Tharp learned there had been a verbal altercation between two men, but not the man on the ground, over an incident that had occurred earlier in the day. Marshal Tharp was told the two men had dogs and they got close enough that a dog fight occurred between the two dogs. Troy Robertson was one of the men and he had been upset that the other man did not keep his dog away from Robertson’s dog.
That night, the other man went out to the patio area to smoke and Robertson was also out there. A verbal altercation between the two men started then escalated. Robertson allegedly suggested to the other man, “Let’s walk out in the road and take care of this like men.” A physical altercation followed.
People inside the building in the cafeteria area heard the ruckus and a woman in an electric mobility chair was headed outside with the man who ended up on the ground walking behind her.
Another physical altercation then occurred between Robertson and the man walking out the door. That ended up with the man on the ground.
The man on the ground complained of pain on his head, lower lip and rib cage where he was allegedly struck by Robertson during the altercation.
After speaking with everyone on the scene, Robertson was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail by Marshal Tharp.
Robertson was booked in at 9:47 p.m. with bond set at $500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $50 bond and been released.
The date for Robertson’s initial hearing has not yet been set but when he appears in Greene Superior Court, he will be charged with disorderly conduct – engaged in fighting or tumultuous conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
