A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Jasonville woman on two counts of neglect of a dependent after her two children were found unattended in a laundromat.

Jasonville Police Department Officer Skylar Scott was dispatched to the Laker Laundromat on West Main Street on Feb. 17 in regard to two juveniles causing problems inside the establishment. Once on scene, Scott found two children without adult supervision. When asked where their mom was, one of the children said she was at home. Officer Scott asked the children to follow him to his police vehicle so he could take them home; however, they said they needed to retrieve their bicycles. The children rode their bicycles, with Officer Scott following them, to their West Hickory Street residence.

Once at the residence, Officer Scott talked to the mother, Jacquelin Slater, and asked if she knew where the children had gone. Slater alleged she had fallen asleep and did not know where they had gone. Officer Scott informed Slater he had located them at the Laker Laundromat after receiving a complaint. Officer Scott released the juveniles to Slater and informed her he would report the incident to the Department of Child Services.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Jasonville Police Department has responded to multiple incidents where the juveniles have been reported missing by Slater or have been observed by individuals roaming unattended.

A warrant was issued for Slater’s arrest on March 7. Upon her arrest, she will be charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent, each of which is a Level 6 Felony.
