Bloomfield woman arrested for possession of meth following traffic stop
/A traffic stop for an expired license plate on Dec. 19 resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old Bloomfield woman for possession of methamphetamine.
Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Devan Goad arrested Melissa Sue Thomas following a traffic stop in which she was the passenger.
According to the probable cause affidavit written by Deputy Goad, the vehicle Thomas was traveling in was towed as neither Thomas nor the driver possessed a valid driver’s license and the plate was expired. Deputy Goad conducted an inventory of the vehicle before being towed. A small glass jar with a silver aluminum lid was located. Inside the jar was a white crystal-like substance that, according to the probable cause affidavit, later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Thomas alleged she found the jar in the Walmart parking lot three to four days prior and placed it in the vehicle. Deputy Goad explained since it was in her possession, she would be placed under arrest.
She was transported to Greene County Jail where her bond where she was held without bond until her initial hearing. She appeared in Greene Superior Court Dec. 21 for an initial hearing. At that time, her bond was set at $5,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. She was later released after posting $500.
