Bloomfield woman accused of shoplifting
/A Bloomfield woman was arrested Sunday on a warrant issued in late April for allegedly concealing a swimsuit in her purse then leaving a store without paying for the item.
Jami Nichole Foster, 33, Bloomfield, was arrested on a warrant by Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last night, Sunday, June 14.
The warrant for her arrest has been out since April 30, issued as a result of an investigation by Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department.
Officer Franklin and LPD Officer John Agan were dispatched to the Walmart store in Linton on April 11 around 8 p.m. when store employees stopped Foster for an alleged shoplifting incident.
Foster allegedly tried to get in her car and leave the area before the officers arrived and when they got there, an employee was standing in the parking lot pointing them to Foster who was also standing in the parking lot. The employee said he saw Foster leaving the store with merchandise she did not pay for.
According to Officer Franklin, the employee told them he watched Foster conceal a swimsuit in her purse then leave the store. The employee followed her and when she left, told her to stop. Once she realized he was following her, she went back into the store, pulled the swimsuit out of her purse and handed it to him but didn’t want to wait for law enforcement to arrive.
During an interview, Foster allegedly said she sometimes uses her handbag to carry things she intends to buy, and she forgot she had put the swimsuit in her bag.
The officers reviewed surveillance video of the incident and reported the value of the swimsuit was $19.96.
Foster had previously been trespassed from all Walmart stores since 2015.
When Officer Franklin reviewed Foster’s criminal history, he found she had previously been convicted of theft in Morgan County in 2016. That conviction bumps the current charge of theft up to a felony.
Foster was booked in to the Greene County Jail before 8 p.m. last night. Her bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $500 and was released.
She is currently scheduled to appear in court on July 2 to face charges of theft as a Level 6 felony and criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.
