Bloomfield officer does not fall for shenanigans

A man tried to get his ex-wife in trouble by making up a text message about stealing his tv, sending the message from his own phone, to his own phone, then telling an officer it came from her. The officer did not fall for it.

A summons was sent out yesterday to Lloyd Robert Turpin, 48, Bloomfield, ordering him to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on October 19. Turpin will be receiving that at the Greene County Jail. He has other cases pending against him and he’s currently incarcerated.

In the newest case filed against him last week, Turpin is accused of concocting a story to get someone in trouble for something they didn’t do.

Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department has been investigating since mid-July. At that time, Officer Blazier talked to Turpin in the course of investigating an unrelated case. While talking to him, Turpin told Officer Blazier that his ex-wife had stolen his television out of his storage unit and he showed the officer a text message that Turpin said was sent by his ex-wife.

In this message, the sender tells Turpin that she took the key to the storage unit off his key ring, took the television and hopes he’s not mad. There’s also language about how she misses him like crazy and loves him.

During the conversation with Turpin, Officer Blazier told Turpin he’d look into it. And then, Officer Blazier realized the message was sent from the same number where it was received.

Officer Blazier attempted to talk to the ex-wife, but was unsuccessful. He then talked again with Turpin in mid-August at the sheriff’s department, telling Turpin he knew the message was sent from his own cell phone to his own cell phone.

According to Officer Blazier, Turpin admitted he did send the message to himself in an attempt to get his ex-wife in trouble and to get help for her. He also admitted interfering with the officer’s investigation and that he lied to the officer about the theft of his television.

Turpin is facing a preliminary charge of false informing – giving a false report of the commission of a crime, a Class B misdemeanor.
