Bloomfield man accused of criminal confinement and intimidation
/A Bloomfield man engaged in an argument with a girlfriend allegedly told her he was going to kill her and that he’d dug a hole for her body as he drove her vehicle out of town toward the covered bridge.
Aaron Alan Weber, 25, of Bloomfield, was arrested by Det. Shawn Cullison of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday morning, July 2.
Det. Cullison, the investigating officer, along with numerous other officers, responded around 7:50 a.m. that morning after a woman called the sheriff’s department to report Weber had taken her gray
Dodge Durango. She said he was headed south on Base Road leaving Bloomfield and she was following him.
Other officers who responded included GCSD Deputy Harvey Holt, Deputy Jimmy Carpenter, Bloomfield Town Marshal Ken Tharp and Bloomfield Officer Ryan Montgomery.
They were all on the way when the vehicle turned around and headed back north toward Bloomfield, but just south of town, Cullison and Tharp blocked the path and the vehicle stopped.
Weber, who was identified as the driver, put his hands out the window, then after ordered to exit the vehicle, allegedly said he had just taken the vehicle to put gas in it.
The owner of the vehicle, who arrived on the scene with a couple of friends, said Weber had actually taken the vehicle the night before but left it overnight in the parking lot of a pizza restaurant then went back to get it that morning.
When asked to explain the situation, the woman claimed she let Weber drive the vehicle the day before, while she was in the passenger seat, to go meet some friends at a convenience store in Bloomfield. They had been in an argument and she said he did not drive to the store but instead drove out Base Road toward the covered bridge. When she asked where they were going, he allegedly told her he was going to kill her and he had dug a hole to put her body in.
She said when the vehicle stopped, she jumped out and ran but he chased her down, grabbed her arm and pulled her back to the vehicle. She said she was hit several times. When they got back to their residence, she left and went to a neighbor’s residence.
Det. Cullison reported she had several deep bruises on her arms.
Deputy Holt talked to one of the friends who said he was not present during that incident but he had witnessed Weber shove the woman several times the day before. The witness also said at one point, Weber had taken a glass bottle and struck himself in the head, telling the woman that if she called the cops, he would tell them she hit him.
When Weber was interviewed, he denied driving out toward the covered bridge, denied being out there, and said he took the vehicle because she had thrown the keys at him and told him to leave.
Weber was booked into the Greene County Jail and when he appeared in court last week for his initial hearing, he was charged with:
Confinement, a Level 6 felony.
Intimidation, a Level 6 felony.
Domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
As of Wednesday, July 17, he had not posted bond.
