Bloomfield driver found slumped over a steering wheel at a gas station

After a citizen reported a driver had been slumped over a steering wheel for over an hour at a gas station early yesterday morning, a deputy was dispatched and determined the driver was intoxicated.

Isaac William Fields, 29, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Michael Stanley of the Greene County Sheriff's Department early Thursday, September 15.

Deputy Stanley was dispatched around 5:20 AM Thursday to a gas station on East State Road 58 after a caller told dispatch a man was slumped over the steering wheel of a black two-door passenger car - a Toyota Yaris. The caller said the man had been slumped over the steering wheel for over an hour. The caller said the vehicle was partially on the curb near the main entrance of the gas station. The driver was later determined to be Isaac William Fields.

Fields was the only person in the vehicle and he admitted to driving the vehicle. Deputy Stanley reported  security footage showed that when the vehicle drove up to Hasler’s Junction gas station, the vehicle hit the parking block and the front passenger side tire mounted the top of the parking block.

Deputy Stanley reported it took several shoulder taps to partially wake Fields and he had an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and he showed numerous signs of impairment including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, poor manual dexterity and an abusive attitude. Fields allegedly admitted he had been drinking alcohol.

Fields refused to take a portable breath test and he refused consent to take a certified chemical test. The results of a blood test are pending.

Fields was booked into the Greene County Jail at 7:28 AM with bond set at $5000 surety with 10% cash allowed. Jail officers were unable to obtain a mugshot of Fields at that time.

When Fields appears in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing, he will be facing charges of:

  • Resisting law enforcement - knowingly or intentionally forcibly resisting or obstructing law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor.
