A Solsberry man, recently released from the Monroe County Jail, wound up in the Greene County Jail late Sunday night, accused of driving while his license was suspended and being in possession of methamphetamine and syringes.

Gary D. Reed, 30, Solsberry, was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Alan Jackson then booked in to jail around 11:13 p.m. Sunday, April 7, and held without bond pending his appearance in court.

Deputy Jackson had responded, along with Deputy David Elmore, to check on Reed after a caller expressed concern about his welfare.

The deputies found Reed sitting behind the wheel of a minivan that was parked in the driveway of a residence where his children were staying. The resident said she did not want him there.

Deputy Jackson said the hood of the minivan was warm to the touch and that Reed admitted to driving the vehicle. A driver’s license check showed his license was suspended until September 3, 2023, due to a prior conviction in Monroe County for driving while suspended.

Before transporting Reed to the sheriff’s department, during a pat-down, Jackson found a syringe in one of Reed’s pockets. The syringe field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Deputy Elmore reported that during an inventory of the vehicle, he found approximately 99 syringes and a clear plastic bag containing a crystalized substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine.

Deputy Jackson reported that Reed showed signs of impairment and at the sheriff’s department, Reed passed a portion of field sobriety testing, but failed other parts. Reed refused to take a chemical test. After a search warrant was approved, a blood sample was drawn by personnel from the Greene County Ambulance Service – results are pending.
