William M. Newsom, 86, born September, 9, 1931 of Worthington, Indiana, died Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 12:04 pm. He went peacefully at home with his loving wife of 61 years, Joanna; daughters, Rebecca and Barbara; granddaughters, Erin, Bonnie and Kyla and grandson Jason helping care for him during his short bout with cancer from September to his date of passing.

He is survived by his twin daughters, Rebecca (Scott) Dayhoff and Barbara (Fred) Shrum; son, Kent (Gianna) Newsom; granddaughter, Sarah (Albert) Simonitti; great grandson, Alan, who lives in Italy and could not be here with him at this time but was here with his family in thoughts and prayers. He is also survived by his other granddaughters, Erin (Brock) Borders, Bonnie (Bryce) Thompson and Kyla Dayhoff Hargrove; grandson, Jason Dayhoff; great grandchildren, Madyson Borders, Brayden Borders, McKenzye Borders, Millie Thompson, Hailey Hargrove, Katie Sylvester, Jhonan Dayhoff, Joclynn Dayhoff and Jack Dayhoff.

William is the son of the late Allen and Eva Newsom. He is also preceded in death by his 9 brothers and sisters, James (who died as a young child), Richard and wife Lucille, Ruth, Robert and wife Maurine, Charles and wife Pauline, John and wife Helen, Jane ad husband JD, Merril Dean and husband Bob as well as Norris and his wife Junko.

His wife is the only surviving member of this large family of his father, mother, brothers and sisters.

William was enlisted in the Air Force and served four years to his country, graduated from IU College with a degree in accounting. He was a retired Government Auditor of 30 years in January 1987 at NWSC Crane.

He was a hard working good provider for his family and family is what meant the most to him in his long life. He was always there for family or anyone who had a need he could help with; a most generous person all his adult life.

William loved grafting Pecan and English Walnut trees, growing hybrid persimmon trees, berry picking, mushroom hunting, fishing and watching TV, especially the IU basketball games. One could always hear him singing his favorite old songs and the one thing he hated most was the squirrels that came for the nuts from his nut trees.

Private services will be observed by the family at a later date.
