Willard R. Orman
/Willard R. Orman, age 91, of Linton, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, March 10, 2022, at Lakeland Hospice House in Lakeland, Florida. He was born in Howesville on February 21, 1931, the son of Roy and Sarah (Fulford) Orman.
Willard was a 1950 graduate of Midland High School and served in the United States Army as a Sargent during the Korean War. He was retired from AMAX Coal Company where he worked as a Machinist for many years.
He was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Linton and the United Mine Workers of America.
After the Korean War, Willard moved his bride to Indianapolis where they lived for 16 years and where 3 of their daughters were born. They moved back to Greene County in 1967 when he began working at AMAX Coal.
Willard enjoyed being outside working in his yard and garden. He was even mowing his 5 acre yard as recently as last summer. He loved traveling, eating out, and sports. He was especially an avid IU basketball fan and loved following the Colts.
Family was very important to him. He loved when his daughters, their husbands and grandchildren would come to visit and now all those great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris J. (Alexander) Orman of Linton, four daughters, Kim (David) Bemis of Westfield, Tammy (Monte) Nickless of Linton, Dee (Jeff) Johnson of Corpus Christi, TX, and Sara (Scott) Padgett of Tampa, FL, thirteen grandchildren, Shaun (Tal) Bemis, Laura (Nathan) Newby, Ross (McKenzie) Bemis, Andrea Nickless, Ashlee (Abel) Lopez, Anna (William) Boland, Amy (Ryen) Fondriest, Dalton (Leanne) Hardisty, Dylan (Katelynn) Hardisty, Trey (Ashlee) Johnson, Haley Johnson, Emily Padgett, and Ryan Padgett, sixteen great-grandchildren, with one coming in June, and a sister, Elsie Hays.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Herb, Hershel, Harold, Paul, James, and Charles Orman, and two sisters, Rose Neff and Myrtle Cox, a granddaughter, Jessica Nickless.
Arrangements are pending at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton. Rev. Dan Kemp will officiate. Burial will will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
