Rick J. Cross
/Rick J. Cross, age 66, of Linton, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Marion County on September 13, 1952, the son of Clyde Cross and Ruby Frances (Williams) Cross.
Rick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He worked at Indiana University Power Plant where he retired after twenty-seven years of service as Chief Engineer. He served as a reserve officer for the Monroe County Sherriff's department.
He served as a volunteer in the prison ministry at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility and the Linton Community Food Pantry in Linton. He was proud to have received his Ham Radio Operators License.
Rick attended the Linton Assembly of God Church where he loved his church family and worship. He was always active enjoying working around his home. He was often affectionately referred as O.M. He enjoyed science and anything that would work the mind. He was a "Jack of all trades and a master of a few". He was adventurous, driven, curious, courageous, fun, big hearted, very loving, and truly enjoyed his grandchildren.
Rick is survived by his wife of nearly nineteen years, Patricia "Pat" (Shepherd) Cross of Linton, his dad, Charles Godsey of Bloomington, his children, Jeremy (Misty) Cross of Ellettsville, Kelly (Mark) Bowie of Charlottesville, VA, Michelle (Jim) Clothier of Linton, Brent (Amy) Kenworthy of Linton, and Sheldon Taxes of Louisville, KY, grandchildren, Ashton, Cameron, Collin, Jeremy, Cassidy, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Austin, Dresden, Xander, Conner, Ethan, and Aiden, numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, and his dog, Sydney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, William Dietrich Bowie, and his three siblings, William Cross, Charles Cross, and Gayle Asher.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 16, 2019, with Rev. Billy Worland officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 P.M. and Friday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may given to the Linton Community Food Pantry through the funeral home.
