Raymond Thornton Thomas

Raymond Thornton Thomas, 96 of Linton, Indiana passed from this life on July 31, 2024 at Greene County General Hospital. He was born October 7, 1927 in a small village, Cale, Indiana in northern Martin County to the late Albert & Nancy (Taylor) Thomas. 

An active member of the Ellis Church of Christ & served as a trustee. He worked for civil service at the Crane Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center for over 31 years in the Transportation Dept. retiring in 1976. He received a plaque in honor of 30 years of Federal Service. He was also an avid farmer of grain and livestock.

An Army veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Italy. A lifetime charter member of the World War II Memorial Society.  A lifetime member of the Trinity Springs Mustering Elm, Trinity Springs, Indiana. A lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 7118 Linton . A lifetime member of the American Legion Post 196 Bloomfield.

He attended Linton Stockton High School & on Jan. 21, 2013, he received his high school diploma through the Veteran's Affairs delayed high school diploma program with the help of senior Joie Gadberry (Kaiser).

He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Olga Thomas of Linton. His five daughters: Peggy Rausch of Linton, Jeanne Patton of Linton, Julie Dyer of Linton, Marsue (Mike) Visokay of South Carolina, & Cheri (Randy) Koenig of Sandborn. Grandchildren; Jim Rausch of Linton, Merry Ann Alexander of Portland, Washington, Keri Patton of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jill Dyer of Linton, Jonathan (Kylie) Koenig of Boonville, Indiana, Madison Koenig of Gallatin, Tennessee Great grandchildren; Dylan Alexander of Missouri, Dawson Kelm of Oaktown, Indiana, Julia Hollifield of Linton, Willow Keene of Linton and his sister, Sue Jones of Clarksville, Tennessee

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Ward Thomas, Paul Thomas, Justin Thomas & Warren Thomas; his sisters, Alberta Troyan, Pauline Hodges, Mary Kelly, & Thelma Hoyt. His granddaughter, Jamie Hollifield, great grandson Jaxson Hollifield.

As requested, there will be no public visitation or services. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery.
