Mary S. Powell, age 93, of Linton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Garden Villa in Bloomington. She was born in Linton, IN on April 6, 1926, the daughter of Donald Sargent & Bertha (Houchin) Sargent. 

Mary was a 1943 graduate of Linton High School. She worked at AT&T in the Network Management Department in Orlando, Florida for 34 years. She frequently attended services at the Linton First Assembly of God Church. Mary was a former member of the Eastern Star, Pioneer Club at AT&T and a member of the Memory Makers Quilt Guild. Mary was always piecing a quilt in her rocking chair with designs of vibrant violets or blush hearts. She loved to quilt, crochet, read, play the piano and host family gatherings that always included a wonderfuly warm meal. She had a sharp sense of style and loved picking out creative ensembles from her beloved wardrobe collection.

She is survived by her daughters, Clara (Michael) Griffin of Florida and Lou Ann (Mike) Steadman of Linton; step-daughter, Shelia Powell of Texas; grandchildren, Marisa (Gary Wolfson) Magee, Allyson (Patrick) Green, Kelly Griffin and Addison Duncan; great-granddaughters, Leslie Wheeler and Dannikah Holly-Lynn Griffin-Westman; great grandson, Merrick Alan Green and niece, Lynda Lee Towles.

The beautiful, blue-eyed bride was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Powell; parents; son, William Edward Veatch; step-son, Kent Powell and brothers, Arnold Sargent and Donald Sargent, Jr.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, IN on Friday, September 20, 2019, with Rev. Dick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or S.A.F.E. in Linton through the funeral home.
