Lorene Francis Gentry, 89, of Sandborn, Indiana, sweetly went to Heaven, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Glenburn Home in Linton, Indiana. She was born on October 7, 1928 in Westphalia, Indiana to Eldo R. and Ruth (Bray) Stremming. Lorene married Cecil L. Gentry on June 7, 1947.

Lorene was a devoted member of the Salem United Church of Christ, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher, Pianist for the Children’s Division, Church Librarian and a Confirmation Class Teacher. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship, Wabash Valley Women’s Association Board of the UCC and was instrumental in helping start the Sandborn Library Summer Reading Program. Lorene was employed at the Sandborn Jr. High cafeteria for 8 years and the Sandborn Grocery for 15 years before retiring. She loved spending precious time with her grandchildren and taking photos to capture special moments. Lorene loved nature as God provided it, working in her flower garden, planting trees and wanting to save them and the birds. She was a blessing to so many who were blessed to know her.

Survivors include: son, Jeffrey J. (Dolly) Gentry of Linton; grandchildren, Meagan Gentry and James (Rachel) Gentry, both of Sandborn; nine step-grandchildren; great-grandson, Jarrett Jayson Ford Nicholson of Linton; great-granddaughter, Scarlet Paige Gentry of Sandborn; brother, David R. (Lyn) Stremming of Orange Park, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Lorene was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Cecil L. Gentry; son, Terry Gentry; brother, Vivan Stremming and sister, Charlotte K. Robbins.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia with Pastor Bryan Taylor officiating. Lorene will be laid to rest at Salem Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ or the charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the church.
