Janice Marie Gastineau

Janice Marie Gastineau, age 80, of Switz City, passed away peacefully at 3:09 AM on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.  She was born in Bushrod on July 20, 1939, the daughter of Burl & Rowena (May) Carmichael.

She was a 1957 graduate of Sandborn High School, graduating from Indiana University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching.  She later earned her Masters Degree from IU.

Janice worked throughout the years in elementary and junior high at L & M, Midland, and Shakamak, retiring from North Knox in 1995.  She primarily taught art during her years in education.  

She was a member of the Linton First United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star of Lyons and Linton, and was a mother advisor and district deputy for Linton Rainbows Girls #66.

Janice enjoyed working with crafts, quilting, and cross stitch.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rhonda (Tom) Reed of Clinton and Sarah Gastineau of Terre Haute, a son, John Gastineau of Switz City, three grandchildren, Steven (Christen) Reed, Danae (Brian) Horban, Michelle (Adam) Itczak, four great-grandchildren, Noah Reed, Abram Reed, Emerson Itczak, and Mason Itczak, and a foster great-granddaughter, two brothers, Jerry (Barbara) Carmichael of Eddyville, KY and Randy (Beckey) Carmichael of Kyle, TX, and nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Ronald Crohn in 1957, her second husband, Robert Gastineau in 2013, a daughter, Teresa Marie Gastineau on 1/27/1979, and an infant sister, Delores Carmichael.

Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. until the time of Eastern Star Service at 2:00 P.M., immediately followed by the funeral service.  Burial will follow at Switz City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rainbow Girls Teresa Marie Gastineau Memorial Fund.
