Gordon M. Grounds, age 82, of Lyons, passed away peacefully at 6:09 am on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Glenburn Home in Linton. He was born in Linton, IN on December 20, 1941, the son of Claude Maxwell & Doris (Lehman) Grounds.

He was a 1959 graduate of L&M High School where he scored the first 4 points for the L&M High School basketball team after the consolidation of the Lyons and Marco High Schools. He then went on to graduate from Indiana College of Mortuary Science and worked for Day Mortuary in Bloomington. He opened a State Farm Insurance office in Spencer and purchased an insurance agency in 1971 from Mary Tibbet Agency and changed it to Lyons Insurance Agency until he sold to his son where it became Walters & Grounds Insurance in Linton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and farming.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Claudia Grounds of Lyons; son, Chad (Angie) Grounds; daughters, Chris (Andy) Johnson and Jenny (Mike) Mullis; grandchildren, Clint Grounds, Levi Grounds, Olivia Johnson, Claire Johnson, Gabriel Johnson, Max Mullis, Annabelle Mullis and Catherine Mullis as well as his sister, Rosie (Terry) Hauser.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephews, Andy Hauser and Matt Hauser.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 22, 2024, with Andy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 2:00-6:00 pm, and Monday from Noon until the time of service.
