Conrad Rex Hudson

Conrad Rex Hudson, 93, of Bloomfield Indiana, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, March 24, 2024 at Greene County General Hospital.

Rex was born February 24, 1931 to Wendell Ray and Pearl (Cochran) Hudson. He married Shirley Jeneane (Auten) Hudson, December 30, 1951.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Rick; his sister and brother-in-law Delores and Clifford Schweer; his sister and brother-in-law Margie and Carmen Ness; and his brother Jack Hudson.

He is survived by his wife; daughter Amy (Cameron) Gilmore; daughter-in-law Nancy Hudson; grandchildren Carla (Ryan) Priest; John (Tricia) Hudson; Taylor Gilmore; Christopher Gilmore; great grandchildren Elizabeth Jane Priest, Lauren Hudson, Travis Priest, Maggie Hudson, Allison Hudson, Elle Malone, Finn Malone; brother Kenny (Rotha) Hudson; sister Nelda (Bernard) Porter; and sister-in-law Kaye Hudson. He is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.

Rex was a 1949 graduate of Solsberry High School. He attended Canterbury College and graduated with distinction after 3 1/2 years from Indiana University in 1954. He received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education. He later received his principal license.

His first teaching/coaching job was at Loogootee High School from 1954 to 1956. In the summer of 1956 Coach Guy Glover traveled to Loogootee and asked Rex to be his B-team coach. Over Rex’s coaching career his B-teams compiled a record of 253 wins and 88 losses (74%) including 13 county championships.

Rex also enjoyed coaching cross country, track and baseball, where he was instrumental in starting Babe Ruth at Bloomfield. While teaching and coaching, his summers were filled with drivers’ education and summer camps. He continued roofing and building over 55 houses after his retirement in 1989.

Rex was an elder of the Bloomfield Church of Christ since 1968. He was active in serving his church family. One week before he passed he offered a public prayer at church services. He loved people, never met a stranger and was extremely generous.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Bloomfield Church of Christ and 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday at the church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bloomfield Church of Christ with Brother Joshua Riggins officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial contribution in Rex‘s name to the Bloomfield Church of Christ or athletic department of your choice.
