Barbara L. Reed
/Barbara L. Reed, 83, of Linton, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Serenity Spring Senior Living in Jasonville, surrounded by the quiet comfort of her family.
Born in Linton on September 5, 1942, to Ershel G. and Helen (Gonser) Miller, Barbara grew up rooted in the values of family, faith, and hard work - values she carried with her every day. A proud 1960 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, she soon began building a life filled with love and purpose.
On Christmas Eve of 1961, she married Wayne L. Reed, beginning a 64-year partnership marked by devotion, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they raised four children, creating a home that was always welcoming, lively, and full of care.
Barbara had a natural gift for nurturing others, which led her back to college once her children were in school. She earned her degree from Indiana State University in 1979 and went on to teach at Linton-Stockton Elementary School. In her classroom, she was a steady encouragement, a patient listener, and a guiding presence to generations of students.
Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a devoted member of Linton First Christian Church. Outside of her work and church, Barbara found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments - tending her garden, getting lost in a good book, carefully preserving memories through scrapbooks, and even keeping a weather journal, capturing the rhythms of the seasons she loved so much. After retirement, Barbara and Wayne embraced adventure together, spending ten years traveling the country in their camper. Whether it was a quiet park or a scenic overlook, she cherished the beauty of nature and the time spent side by side with her husband.
Barbara’s greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne L. Reed; her children, Kevin (Melissa) Reed, Jay (Cheryl) Reed, David Reed, and Dr. Barbara Ann (Keith) Reed-Schuessler; six grandchildren, Mitchel (Michelle) Reed, Curtis (Katie) Reed, Autumn (Tanner) Hall, Paul Reed, Audrey (Trey) Passen, and Kelsey (Jaxson) Schuessler; eleven great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Wanda Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jerry Miller, Eddy Don Miller, and Mike Miller; and her sister, Carolyn Huls.
Barbara will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her steady kindness, and the way she made others feel seen and cared for. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply and in the many lives she quietly touched.
A funeral service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, of Walton Funeral Service, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, with Archie Ellett officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Cemetery in Coal City.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, and Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Linton First Christian Church through the funeral home.
