A Worthington man who was arrested in March then charged with felonies for meth possession and domestic battery in the presence of a child posted bond and was released from jail after he was served with a protective order warning him to have no contact with the alleged victim. After a WPD officer reported he had sent a text message to the protected person, he was arrested again and now he’s back in jail where he’s being held without bond.

Johnathan Wayne Jerrells, 26, Worthington, was arrested by Deputy Marshall Heather Wood of the Worthington Police Department on Thursday, April 28.

Jerrells was arrested earlier in March following an incident that occurred in Worthington that attracted the attention of many Worthington citizens. As a result, Jerrells was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. When he appeared in court for his initial hearing on April 28, his bond was set at $20,000 surety with 10% cash allowed and he was served with a protective order, ordering him to have no contact with the alleged victim in the case. He then posted $2,000 and was released.

But around 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 2, the protected person contacted the Worthington Police Department about a text message she said was sent to her by Jerrells.

Officer Wood responded to the protected person’s residence where she looked at the phone and was shown the text message that was sent, allegedly by Jerrells, at 4:03 AM.

Officer Wood attempted to contact Jerrell that day but he did not answer then on April 3 around 10:00 AM, she was able to speak with Jerrells about the text message and reported that Jerrells acted like he did not know he was not allowed to text the protected person. Jerrells allegedly said, “I have to stay 100 feet away from her.” Officer Wood advised Jerrells that he is not to have any contact in any form with the protected person and that any communication with the protected person could result in a criminal charge.

After the report was forwarded to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office, a criminal charge was filed against Jerrells on April 22 and a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 25 for invasion of privacy in violation of a protective order, a Class A misdemeanor. He was then taken into custody on April 28 by Officer Wood and booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:40 AM.

The bond for this offense was set at $5000 surety with 10% cash allowed. However as a result of this charge, the state filed a petition to revoke his bond in the other case pending against him. The court entered an order revoking his bond on April 29 and he is currently being held in the Greene County Jail without bond.

Jerrells has retained a defense attorney out of Cloverdale who has filed a motion to set bond or release Jerrells to pretrial community corrections but the court has not yet ruled on that motion.
