A 28-year-old Linton woman was arrested on May 18 after an officer found her asleep behind the wheel at a local gas station in possession of synthetic marijuana.

Linton Police Officer Mitchell Eberhardt arrested Macy Lee McBride on a possession of a controlled substance (possession of a schedule I, II, III, or IV controlled substance) charge while noticing her slumped behind the wheel in the gas station parking lot.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Officer Eberhardt pulled up beside the vehicle and found McBride asleep inside. The driver’s side door was open and one of McBride’s feet was out of the car. When Eberhardt exited his vehicle, McBride allegedly woke and said she had fallen asleep. When exiting the car, Eberhardt said he noticed McBride's eyes were red and glassy.

LPD Officer Bobby Pierce was on scene and was standing on the passenger side of the vehicle when he, according to the probable cause affidavit, noticed a smoking pipe laying in the seat. When asked about the pipe, McBride alleged it was for tobacco. She told the officers they could get the pipe from her car and smell it. According to the probable cause affidavit, Officer Pierce smelled the pipe and reported it smelled like synthetic marijuana.

During a search of McBride’s car, Eberhardt located a baggie containing a plant-like material that appeared to be synthetic marijuana. McBride denied having any drugs on her person. According to the probable cause affidavit, LPD Officer Alan Jackson observed McBride making movements as if she was attempting to reach for something. Officer Pierce then conducted a search of McBride and located a baggie containing a plant-like material that appeared to be synthetic marijuana in her back right pocket.

When advised she was going to be arrested, McBride asked officers if she could have a gas station attendant move her car out of the way of the pumps. The clerk agreed to move her car to the side of the building. As McBride was placed in the back seat of Eberhardt’s patrol car, the clerk alerted officers to another baggie of green plant-like material that appeared to be synthetic marijuana lying on the ground where McBride’s car was parked at the gas pumps.

McBride was booked into Greene County Jail where bond was set at $1,000 surety with 10% allowed. She was released later the same day after posting $100.

She is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on June 5.
