Jayci Elizabeth Steuerwald, 23, of Clay City, was arrested by Worthington Deputy Marshal Russell Walls early Friday, August 23. She was booked into the Greene County Jail around 3 a.m. following a traffic stop conducted by Officer Walls in Worthington close to 1:30 a.m.

Steuerwald was the driver of a black Ford Explorer with one male passenger on board.

Walls was on routine patrol, with Deputy Marshal E.J. Westgate, when he saw the Explorer pull out of the Country Market store lot and noticed the vehicle had a broken, non-illuminated right rear tail light. Walls initiated a traffic stop in the area of North Commercial (State Road 67) and Union Street to advise the driver of the violation.

Walls reported that during the stop, Steuerwald exhibited signs of intoxication and he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage plus he noticed empty Budweiser bottles laying in the rear passenger floorboard. He said when he asked her if she’d been drinking, she said she had a few beers. She allegedly admitted later that she’d been drinking vodka and beer.

Deputy Marshal Jordan Allor then arrived to assist on the scene. He administered standard field sobriety tests and reported she failed.

Steuerwald was transported to the sheriff’s department where she reportedly failed standard field sobriety tests again and Allor administered a chemical test. He reported test results showed she had a blood alcohol level of .245 which is a little over three times the legal limit of .08.

Steuerwald’s bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She has since posted $400 cash and been released.

When she appeared in Greene Superior Court early last Thursday, August 29, she was formally charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
