Woman accused of disorderly conduct in dispute with neighbors
/Police were called after a dispute between neighbors escalated into a physical altercation involving punching and pushing a couple of weeks ago. This week a summons was sent to one of the women ordering her to appear in court.
Sheryl Lackey, of Bloomfield, has been ordered to appear in Greene Superior Court to face a charge of disorderly conduct – engaging in fighting or tumultuous conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
The case against Lackey was filed following an investigation by Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
On Monday, May 20, Deputy Frye was dispatched to a property on North Wolf Road, Bloomfield, after Lackey called in to report two other women had come onto her property and attacked her.
When Frye arrived, he noted Lackey had cuts and scrapes on her face and head and blood in her ear.
When Frye talked to Lackey and got her side of the story, he learned there was a dispute with neighbors about Lackey’s horses running loose and she had started building a fence. She had enlisted some help from others and they were working on the fence when the altercation took place.
Frye then talked to the two other women and he and Deputy Jackson talked to the other individuals who were present and witnessed the incident. The other women also sustained some signs of injury and of being pushed down into mud.
All told similar stories but both Lackey and the two other women claimed the other party threw the first punch and they were acting in self-defense.
No arrests were made at that time but Frye explained he would submit the details of his investigation to the prosecutor’s office for review.
By Tuesday, June 4, a criminal case had been filed against Lackey and a summons had been sent to her to be in court in July.
