Weekend crash in eastern Greene County claims one life

One man was killed and another injured in a one-vehicle crash in eastern Greene County over the weekend.

Ronnie Rivera, 47, died in the crash that occurred around 12:39 a.m. Saturday, June 27, on South State Road 45 at or near East Tincher Road.

Rivera was a passenger in a white 2009 GMC Sierra that was southbound on the highway.

Lucas Skutt, 46, Springville, was the driver. He was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital with injuries.

Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Zachary Goad and Det. David Elmore, the investigating officers, were assisted on the scene by other deputies and personnel from the Indiana State Police, the Greene County Ambulance Service and the Center Township Fire Department.

The deputies reported it appeared the Sierra traveled off the west side of the road onto the shoulder, continuing southbound for approximately 240 feet before overturning and sliding across both north and southbound lanes. The Sierra came to rest on its top in a ditch on the east side of the road.

The accident is still under investigation and no additional details have been released.
