A Worthington man is facing a Level 1 felony charge of child molesting after WPD officers responded to a home in Worthington last Friday afternoon. A caller had reported two individuals witnessed the incident.

Timothy Frederick Coleman, 31, was arrested last Friday, May 8, by Worthington Deputy Marshal Brittney Allen. Although jail and court records show Coleman with a home address in Sullivan, police say he was living in Worthington at the time of his arrest.

Officer Allen responded along with Worthington Town Marshal Jim O’Malley around 2:50 p.m. last Friday to a residence on South Lessie Street in Worthington after a caller reported he and a woman had both just witnessed an incident of physical molestation by Coleman on a young child take place at the residence.

The caller said Coleman had been drinking all day and when the two officers arrived, Coleman came out of the house with a large bottle of alcohol in hand. Marshal O’Malley talked to Coleman outside while Officer Allen talked to the two witnesses inside the house.

The two witnesses did not reside at the home. Coleman did reside at the home with the mother of their three children. The two witnesses said they were there to babysit the children at the request of the mother who told them she did not want to leave the children in Coleman’s care while she went to work, because he had been drinking.

Officer Allen, the investigating officer, reported the two witnesses told the same story about the incident and were able to recount what happened in detail. They allegedly said Coleman had kissed a small child inappropriately while changing the child’s diaper. According to Officer Allen, when the two witnesses both underwent a second interview later at the police department, they again told the same story in detail. After the incident occurred, the male witness immediately called police.

Greene County DCS (Department of Child Services) was also contacted and responded to the home.

Coleman was taken into custody and booked in to the Greene County Jail before 6 p.m. His bond was set at $40,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. On Sunday, he posted $4,000 and was released.

Today, Monday, May 11, Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw filed a criminal case against Coleman in Greene Circuit Court.

Coleman is facing a preliminary charge of child molesting, a Level 1 felony.

He is scheduled to appear at an initial hearing on May 28.
