Tragic accident late last Thursday afternoon claimed life

A tragic accident on Corwin Road in the Bloomfield area last Thursday, April 11, claimed the life of 67-year-old Elizabeth Ann Spears.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Det. Jim O’Malley and Det. Shawn Cullison, both from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, investigated this incident.

The detectives reported Spears was driving a 2006 Hummer H3 when the vehicle traveled east of the road shoulder and became lodged on the edge of the roadway. They said it appeared the vehicle’s exhaust system ignited foliage beneath the vehicle and a fire developed.

Spears died as a result of the fire.
