A brake light out, a taillight out and a low hanging fuel tank led to a traffic stop in Linton late Sunday night. That led to an arrest for possession of methamphetamine.

Rachel Elizabeth Archer, 40, of Carlyle, Illinois, was arrested by Officer Joe Riley of the Linton Police Department following a traffic stop in Linton.

Officer Riley was on patrol close to 11 p.m. Sunday, October 27, when he noticed a dark colored Jeep Cherokee heading north on Main Street with only one operating taillight, one operating brake light and a fuel tank that was almost dragging the ground. He initiated a traffic stop on North Main and B Streets NE.

Archer was identified as the driver with one male passenger. A records check revealed Archer’s driver’s license had been suspended and the passenger was a habitual traffic offender.

LPD Officer Kyle Robison arrived to assist and while he called for a wrecker, Officer Riley was writing Archer a ticket for driving while suspended.

But then Officer Riley conducted the standard vehicle search before it was towed and found a Ziploc bag with a white crystal substance. He reported it field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

Then the officers located three glass smoking pipes. One of those tested positive for the presence of meth and all three have since been sent to the lab for analysis.

Archer was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail where she was booked in around 1 a.m. Monday. She was being held without bond pending her appearance in court.

Archer is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court tomorrow afternoon, October 31, to be formally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
