Throwback Thursday: Greene County Through the Years

We’re celebrating Greene County’s past. Each Thursday, we’ll share a throwback photo highlighting the moments, places, and people that have shaped our community through the years.

This week’s featured photo connects local history to the classroom. A few years ago, a fourth-grade teacher at Linton-Stockton School Corporation shared a math question with her students that came with a unique local connection — a yo-yo constructed by students at Shakamak High School.

The lesson became especially meaningful when the teacher explained that she is a Shakamak graduate and was a student there when the yo-yo was built. At the time, the student-made yo-yo was recognized as the world’s largest yo-yo, giving students a real-world math lesson rooted in local history.
