Felony charges filed against Lyons man, a former school employee, for child exploitation and possession of child porn

An investigation into child exploitation and possession of child porn by a school employee moved right along after personnel from a social media app submitted info regarding suspicious activity to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who in turn shared the info with a detective from Bloomington who serves on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, resulting in the arrest of a Lyons man last Wednesday. Following the arrest, the school confirmed the suspect was no longer employed at the school. Earlier today, the Greene County Prosecutor filed criminal felony charges against the suspect in Greene Circuit Court.

Former school employee arrested Wednesday is accused of sex crimes involving children

Around 5:30 p.m. yesterday/Wednesday, a man employed by a local school corporation was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail on preliminary charges of felony possession of child pornography and child exploitation. He has since posted bond and been released from jail. According to the school’s superintendent, the man is no longer employed by the school.

Driver accused of reckless driving, passing a school bus on the right, with children waiting to board

An adult woman and five children were waiting for Sam Floyd’s school bus early one morning. When he stopped, with lights flashing and stop arm extended, the kids started to board. Then with two children and the woman still outside the bus, a white Dodge Ram came from behind and didn’t stop. It went around the bus on the right-hand side. There were no injuries, but the pickup truck driver will be charged with reckless driving.

Saturday: Worthington Firefighters to host annual 'Keep the Kids Warm' Fish Fry and Silent Auction

Firefighters, family and friends of the Worthington Fire Territory will host their 9th annual “Keep the Kids Warm” Fish Fry and Silent Auction from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. this Saturday, October 27, at the Worthington Fire Station.

This event includes music and door prizes in addition to great food and good company.

The cost of the meal is a donation with all proceeds going to purchase warm winter gear, including coats, hats, gloves and shoes for children in the White River Valley School District who are in need of these items.

Fire Chief Kyle Steward says everyone is invited and donations both large and small are appreciated.

“It’s that time of year again. Get your money out and bring your appetite,” said Steward. “All the money donated will be used for kids in our local schools.”

Donations for the silent auction have been rolling in and are still being accepted.
