Solsberry woman jailed for failing to send child to school, missing court date
/A 44-year-old Solsberry woman was jailed March 5 on a compulsory school attendance violation after a warrant was issued for her arrest when she failed to appear in court.
Renee Rochelle Hall was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on March 3 for a compulsory school attendance violation. A criminal summons for the court date was issued Jan. 24. When Hall failed to appear, a warrant was issued for her arrest.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed Jan. 24 in Greene Superior Court, Eastern Greene Police Officer Michael Coy delivered a letter to Hall at her residence Dec. 3, 2024. The letter notified Hall that her child had nine unexcused absences.
Under Indiana state law aimed at reducing truancy, students 17 and younger who accumulate 10 unexcused absences are subject to criminal affidavits alleging failure to comply with the compulsory school attendance law, a Class B misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit, Hall told Coy she and the juvenile were not feeling well the prior day when the student missed their ninth unexcused day. She said she forgot to call the school and admitted she is bad about notifying them in such instances.
On Jan. 23, Coy was advised that the juvenile had reached 11 unexcused absences.
Hall was arrested March 5 by Coy and transported to the Greene County Jail. Her bond was set at $5,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. She was released after posting $500.
She is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on March 10 for an initial hearing.
