A Solsberry man is facing a felony criminal recklessness charge after police say he drove at extremely high speeds through Greene County, ran red lights in Bloomfield, and nearly caused multiple crashes before abandoning his vehicle on State Road 54 and fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy on foot.

Brandon Curtis Jamison, 38, was arrested Sept. 15 following the incident. Court records filed Thursday charge Jamison with Level 6 felony criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, Class A misdemeanor resisting law enforcement and Class C misdemeanor reckless driving.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Harvey Holt began receiving reports about the vehicle shortly before 1 p.m. Sept. 15.

One caller reported encountering a black or gray passenger vehicle near Eastern Greene Elementary and Middle School on State Road 54. The caller estimated the oncoming vehicle was traveling well over 100 mph and said it nearly struck his vehicle head-on.

Additional calls followed as the vehicle traveled west. A caller in Bloomfield reported a gray vehicle traveling through town at a high rate of speed, running a red light and nearly striking another vehicle near the courthouse square.

Another witness later told investigators she was traveling west from Bloomfield when a dark-colored SUV with a temporary plate allegedly passed her on the right while crossing a bridge. She estimated the vehicle was traveling more than 100 mph.

According to the affidavit, the witness said the SUV then passed another vehicle on the right before passing several more vehicles on the left in a no-passing zone. Oncoming motorists allegedly had to brake to avoid a collision.

Police subsequently received reports of a gray Chevrolet stopped in the middle of the westbound lane of State Road 54 and of a man walking toward Linton.

Holt arrived at approximately 1:10 p.m. and found a gray Chevrolet Trax blocking the westbound lane, with traffic stopped behind it, according to the affidavit. Holt reported seeing a man walking west along State Road 54 and identified him as Jamison.

Holt alleged Jamison ignored repeated commands to return to the deputy and then to get on the ground. According to the affidavit, Jamison eventually attempted to run away.

Holt deployed his Taser, but it was unsuccessful, and a foot pursuit continued west on State Road 54. Holt reported eventually catching Jamison and tackling him to the ground. A citizen assisted Holt in securing Jamison until additional help arrived. Holt estimated the foot pursuit covered approximately 800 feet.

Investigators later obtained surveillance video from the Greene County Courthouse. According to the affidavit, the footage showed a dark-colored SUV traveling west on State Road 54 at what Holt described as an unsafe high rate of speed in a 25-mph zone.

The SUV allegedly disregarded a red light at the U.S. 231 intersection and another at North Franklin Street. Holt reported the vehicle used a left-turn-only lane to pass a stopped vehicle and nearly collided with a utility van turning onto State Road 54. The SUV then allegedly swerved to avoid the collision and nearly struck a curb and parked vehicle.

Holt identified the vehicle involved as a 2017 Chevrolet Trax and alleged Jamison's driving created a substantial risk of serious bodily injury to motorists and pedestrians.

Jamison was initially booked into the Greene County Jail on preliminary charges of interfering with public safety and reckless driving. His bond was listed at $1,500 surety with 10% cash allowed.
