John David Williams, 49, Solsberry, was arrested by Deputy Michael Stanley of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, November 15. Bond for Williams was set at $14,000 surety or ten percent cash allowed. He posted $1,400 and was released from jail later the same day as his arrest. He’s scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on Thursday, December 3.

Deputy Stanley and Sgt. Bobby Pierce were dispatched on Sunday, November 15, to a residence on Hickory Hills Court, Solsberry, after a caller said Williams was intoxicated and had pointed a firearm at himself during an argument.

While the two deputies were on the way, a different caller contacted dispatch and said they didn’t need an officer anymore. Sgt. Pierce told dispatch that the two deputies would still be going to the residence and Sgt. Pierce also contacted Deputy David Elmore and asked him to respond to assist, due to the nature of the first call.

When the three deputies arrived, they positioned and used a PA system to call Williams out of the residence. Williams and a woman then exited through the front door with their hands above their heads. Another family member was also present inside the residence.

Williams was detained for safety as the deputies spoke to all three individuals at the residence in order to determine what had happened.

Williams and the woman had been in an argument and Williams admitted he had been drinking. As the disagreement escalated, a firearm was allegedly thrown on the floor in order to knock it away from Williams, who then ended up with it and was allegedly waving it around and pointed it at the woman.

Williams said he didn’t remember having a gun in his hand and denied he had threatened anyone.

Deputies took the gun in question and other fully-loaded firearms into possession for safety.

Williams was arrested transported to jail. The woman was advised to consider living somewhere else for the time being.

Williams is facing charge of:

  • Intimidation using a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, and

  • Pointing a firearm at another, a Level 6 felony.
