Shakamak referendum meet-ups offer informal opportunities to ask questions

Metropolitan School District of Shakamak residents will have two informal opportunities to speak with Superintendent Dr. Jacinda Smith about the district’s upcoming operating referendum.

The community meet-ups will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, and Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Pizza Villa in Jasonville.

These are not formal meetings or presentations. Residents are invited to stop by, grab a piece of pizza and sit down at a table, ask questions and learn more about the referendum in a casual setting.

The meet-ups are open to residents who support the proposal, oppose it or remain undecided.

Shakamak voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to approve an operating referendum that could generate up to $499,000 annually for the district for no more than eight years.

Additional referendum information is available at shakamak.k12.in.us/page/referendum-2026.
