Scotland man accused of smacking another man in the head
/A Scotland man is facing a misdemeanor charge after he allegedly admitted he smacked another man in the back of the head as the man was pumping gas.
A criminal case was filed against Charles William Proctor, 47, Scotland, last Friday, April 17. He is facing a preliminary charge of battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
Proctor was arrested on Monday, April 6, by Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. Proctor’s bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $100 and been released from jail.
Deputy Jackson was dispatched around 6:38 p.m. on Monday, April 6, to talk to a man who said he had been battered at the CountryMark White River Junction Co-op gas station on East State Road 58 in rural Bloomfield near Scotland.
The man said he was pumping gas into his truck at the station when Proctor came up behind him and smacked him on the back side of his head. Deputy Jackson reported the man’s ear was red. The man said Proctor told him that’s what he gets for threatening to run Proctor over with his truck. The man said he didn’t know what Proctor was talking about.
When Deputy Jackson went to the station and reviewed surveillance video, he reported it showed the man pumping gas when Proctor walked up and the two engaged in what appeared to be a verbal argument. Proctor then hit the man in the head before leaving.
When Deputy Jackson arrived at Proctor’s residence in Scotland, Proctor came out on his front porch and allegedly admitted to battering the man, saying, “I’m guilty.” Proctor later allegedly said he smacked the man because the man told someone he was going to run over Proctor with his truck.
Proctor was taken into custody and transported to jail. He is currently scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing on May 4.
