Michael Austin Rogers, 26, of Worthington, was taken into custody Saturday night and booked into the Greene County Jail on a preliminary charge of intimidation, a Level 6 felony.

Deputy David Elmore of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the lead investigator, said numerous officers from several agencies responded to the scene on Terre Haute Road in Worthington around 6:44 p.m. Saturday.

According to a release issued Sunday evening, on Saturday evening Greene County Dispatch received a 911 call from a female in Worthington regarding a domestic dispute. The caller said Rogers had threatened to burn her house down and beat her face in. The caller also advised there were multiple firearms in the residence and that Rogers carries a knife. The caller was a family member.

Greene County Sheriff’s Deputies Elmore and others were dispatched and Officer Skylar Scott from the Jasonville Police Department and Deputy Marshal Jordan Allor from the Bloomfield Police Department responded as well.

The caller had left her house and was hiding behind her garage when she made the 911 call. Deputy Elmore gave instructions for her to start walking away from the property. He said he would meet her and he did, talking to her a ways away from the home.

Deputy Elmore said multiple attempts were made by officers outside the residence to contact Rogers, who was inside, but he did not respond.

Deputy Elmore reported deputies made contact with Rogers after opening a storm door and announcing their presence. He said Rogers, from upstairs, yelled to deputies that he would harm himself with a gun if any law enforcement officers came inside the residence.

Negotiations then began with Rogers for him to exit the residence.

Deputy Elmore reported Rogers did exit the residence at approximately 8:25 p.m.

Rogers was then taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in around 10 p.m. with bond set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of late Monday afternoon, he had not yet posted bond and remained in custody.

A criminal case was filed against Rogers today, Monday, September 16, and he’s scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning, Tuesday, September 17, when he will be formally charged with intimidation, a Level 6 felony.
