Pedestrian seriously injured in Jasonville area early this morning

A pedestrian walking on State Road 59 North in the Jasonville area sustained serious injuries when he was hit by a vehicle before 8:00 AM this morning. Both lanes of the highway were shut down during the investigation.

Brandon Wheeler, 26, Jasonville, was transported to Greene County General Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service. From there he was flown by emergency medical chopper to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. The initial assessment of his injuries was that he suffered major injuries to his lower extremities and his torso. No additional information about his condition has been released at time of posting.

Deputy Michael Stanley of the Greene County Sheriff's Department, the investigating officer, reported this incident occurred on North SR 59, Jasonville, at 7:45 AM, Wednesday, March 29.

At that time, Caitlin Barnaby, 30, Terre Haute, was driving a 2014 Ford Focus southbound on SR 59 when she hit Wheeler who was walking in the highway. Barnaby sustained some injury, minor cuts, and was treated on the scene.

Besides deputies from the Greene County Sheriff's Department, personnel responded to the scene from the Indiana State Police, Wright Township Fire Department and the Greene County Ambulance Service.

Deputy Stanley said this accident remains under investigation.
