Newberry woman arrested this week for domestic battery

An argument while cooking Easter dinner coupled with failure to appear for a court date resulted in the domestic battery arrest of a 57-year-old Newberry woman.

Dana Gossman

While in the kitchen of a Newberry residence on April 17, Dana Gossman reportledy picked up a pair of scissors and went toward a subject. The victim blocked the scissors with his left arm, but Gossman managed to stab his right arm. She then fell to the ground.

A witness said she was outside but could hear the two arguing. She said she saw Gossman stab the man in the right arm with scissors while looking through a window. When she walked into the kitchen, she said she saw Gossman falling to the floor.

Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jordan Allor was at the scene and spoke with Gossman who denied stabbing the victim. She said before she fell to the ground, the victim punched her a couple of times. Allor observed bruises on her arms.

Allor spoke with the victim who said Gossman’s bruises are from her frequent falling.

Due to Gossman’s unstable balance, slurred speech, falling, and other behaviors, she was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for evaluation.

She failed to appear at her initial hearing June 27; therefore, a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was arrested on June 29 by Deputy Allor. Her bond was set at $5,000 surety with 10 percent  cash allowed. She posted $500 and was released later the same day.

She is being charged with domestic battery, a Class A Misdemeanor.
