A Lyons man arrested during a traffic stop in Linton has been charged with felony possession of methamphetamine. He was stopped because he failed to signal a turn.

James Steven Myers, Jr., 52, Lyons, was arrested by Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department late last week. Myers was booked into the Greene County Jail at 12:24 a.m. on Friday, October 30, after a traffic stop was initiated in Linton late Thursday, October 29.

Deputy Jackson, the investigating officer, and GCSD Deputy Devan Goad were on patrol around 11 p.m. last Thursday. While southbound on First Street NE in Linton, they noticed a beige 1998 Toyota Camry stop and turn at the intersection of First Street NE and A Street SE without signaling the turn.

Deputy Goad pulled the vehicle over on State Road 59 in the area of the Linton VFW parking lot. Other officers who arrived on scene to assist included GCSD Sgt. Bobby Pierce and Reserve Deputy J. Gluch and Linton Police Officer Joe Riley.

Myers was identified as the driver.

When Officer Riley deployed his K9 partner Kona, the K9 alerted to the presence of illegal substances in the vehicle and Myers was asked to exit the vehicle.

During a pat-down, Myers was found to be in possession of a clear plastic bag that contained a crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a smoking device containing a white residue and another clear plastic bag containing white powder.

Myers was transported to jail and was held without bond pending court appearance.

Myers has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
