A Linton woman is facing preliminary felony methamphetamine and misdemeanor marijuana and paraphernalia charges following a traffic stop that led police to obtain a search warrant for her residence.

Cortney Paige St. John, 39, of Linton, was booked into the Greene County Jail at approximately 2 a.m. Sept. 24. Her preliminary charges were Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine, less than 5 grams; Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana; and Class C misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia for introducing a controlled substance into the body.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began Sept. 23 when Linton Police Department Officer Bracey Breneman reported seeing St. John driving in Linton. A driver's license check indicated St. John did not have a valid license.

At approximately 7:12 p.m., Breneman stopped the Kia SUV on County Road 1100 West, just south of County Road 200 North.

While speaking with St. John, Breneman reported smelling an odor he believed, based on his training and experience, to be marijuana. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police reported finding suspected marijuana inside a silver can located in the front driver's cup holder.

Officers also located a purse containing St. John's identification. Inside the purse, police reported finding a small container labeled "Sativa" containing what was described in the affidavit as a burnt marijuana cigarette.

The investigation led officers to obtain a search warrant for St. John's residence on Northeast Sixth Street in Linton.

During the search, police reported finding suspected methamphetamine in St. John's master bedroom, along with multiple items of paraphernalia containing what the officer described as burnt crystal-like substances.

Police also reported finding suspected marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, suspected THC wax, and suspected THC gummies in the master bedroom. Additional suspected controlled substances and paraphernalia were reportedly found elsewhere on the property.

St. John was taken to the Greene County Jail following the investigation. She was held without bond.
