A 63-year-old Newburgh woman is facing a preliminary felony methamphetamine charge following a traffic stop Wednesday evening in Linton.

Sandra Kay Sollars, 63, is faces preliminary charges of Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine, less than 5 grams, and Class C misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia for introducing a controlled substance into the body.

The case stems from a Sept. 23 traffic stop conducted by Linton Police Department Officer Bracey Breneman.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Breneman stopped a Kia SUV at approximately 7:12 p.m. on County Road 1100 West, just south of County Road 200 North. Sollars was seated in the front passenger seat.

Breneman reported detecting what he believed, based on his training and experience, to be the odor of marijuana while speaking with the occupants. He then had the occupants exit the vehicle.

According to the affidavit, Breneman conducted a pat-down of Sollars as she exited and felt what he believed was a plastic baggie in her right front pocket. When he asked Sollars what was in the pocket, she allegedly told him it was methamphetamine.

Police reported finding a clear pill inside the baggie containing suspected methamphetamine. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit. A straw with a white crystal substance was also located. According to the affidavit, it will be submitted for testing.

Officers reported finding additional suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia while searching the vehicle. The investigation subsequently led police to obtain a search warrant for a Linton residence, where additional suspected controlled substances and paraphernalia were reportedly found.

Sollars was transported to the Greene County Jail where she was held without bond.
