A Louisiana man accused of having an alcohol concentration nearly twice the legal limit after police found him at a Worthington gas station is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Oct. 1.

Christopher Ryan McGee, 32, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, faces a Class A misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more and a Class C misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The case was filed Sept. 24.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began at approximately 9:26 p.m. Sept. 17 when the Greene County Sheriff's Office received a report of a man who appeared to be passed out in a dark gray vehicle with its door open at a gas pump.

Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Herschel Blankenship responded to the Marathon gas station at 117 S. Commercial St. in Worthington. McGee was outside a gray 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer when Blankenship arrived, according to the affidavit.

McGee allegedly told officers he had been working since 4 a.m. and was adjusting to the time difference after arriving from Louisiana earlier that week for a new job. He told police he had consumed two beers and one shot at a Worthington bar at approximately 6 p.m.

Blankenship reported observing slurred speech, glossy eyes and poor manual dexterity. McGee agreed to standardized field sobriety testing, during which the deputy reported observing multiple indicators of impairment.

A portable breath test administered at the scene registered .163, according to the affidavit.

McGee then consented to a chemical breath test and was transported to the Greene County Sheriff's Department. An Intox EC/IR-II breath test was administered at approximately 10:50 p.m., with a reported result of .153 grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath.

According to the affidavit, McGee told police the only alcohol he had consumed that night was at the bar and that he had not consumed alcohol while parked at the gas station.

McGee's initial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1.
