A Linton man is facing multiple drug charges after police allegedly discovered methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia inside his pickup truck during an early morning investigation.

Joseph Michael McBride, 49, was arrested Aug. 24 and is charged in Greene Superior Court with Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine, Class A misdemeanor possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana and Class C misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia. He was booked into the Greene County Jail at 3:03 a.m. Aug. 24. No bond was allowed.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Linton Police Department, Lt. Wayman Blazier was patrolling shortly after 2:20 a.m. Aug. 24 when he noticed a blue 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 parked at Lannan Auto Sales with its fog lights on.

Blazier reported finding McBride asleep inside the truck. McBride allegedly told the officer he had argued with his wife and drove to the parking lot to spend some time alone.

While speaking with McBride, Blazier stated he detected a strong odor of both burnt and raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The affidavit says McBride became noticeably nervous after opening the center console while searching for his driver's license. When questioned, McBride denied smoking marijuana inside the truck and claimed it was a work vehicle, telling officers he did not know what was inside.

After Greene County sheriff's deputies arrived to assist, officers searched the truck.

According to court documents, investigators found a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, a locked glass container holding a bag of suspected methamphetamine, a glass straw with residue believed to have been used to ingest methamphetamine and what appeared to be the burnt end of a marijuana cigarette inside the center console.

Police also reported locating a gray backpack in the back seat containing a metal tin with a small amount of suspected marijuana, another glass straw with residue, rolling papers and an orange prescription bottle containing pills identified through an online pill identifier as hydrocodone-acetaminophen, a Schedule II controlled substance.

The affidavit states field tests indicated the suspected methamphetamine and marijuana tested positive for those substances. Officers also reported smelling burnt marijuana on McBride's person after he exited the vehicle.

After being advised of his Miranda rights, McBride allegedly denied ownership of the drugs and paraphernalia found in the truck.

The suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and pills have been submitted to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for further analysis.

McBride appeared in Greene Superior Court on Aug. 26 for an initial hearing.
